This work consists of a short story juxtaposed with two collages. The short story is a text-collage based on Thomas Pynchon’s seminal debut novel V (1963) and casts Pynchon’s protagonist Benny Profane in the role of an embittered proto-situationist who roams the streets of Paris during the mid-fifties. In true Pynchonian fashion the story ends with a singalong, more specifically with an imagined chanting of this song (the choice of which was triggered by the anecdote of Pynchon’s “cameo” on The John Larroquette Show in the mid-nineties).

The diamond-shaped collage in the middle is based on the sleeve of the 1979 printing of Vangelis Papathanassiou’s record Fais que ton rêve soit plus long que la nuit (1972), which is a musique concrète-collage of music, field recordings, news snippets, protest songs and paroles from the student uprisings in Paris in 1968.

Finally, the triangular collage to the right is a Penrose triangle made up from photographic details of the glacier adorning the 1998-edition of Christopher Gray’s Leaving the 20th Century.
